Editorial Standards
Noct Journal evaluates work for accuracy, relevance, clarity, originality, and evidentiary strength. These public standards describe the principles behind our editorial decisions. Detailed internal standards, review procedures, and operational guidance are maintained separately.
Mission
Noct Journal publishes independent research, reporting, investigations, technical analysis, and evidence-based commentary that help readers understand consequential subjects with greater depth and precision.
Editorial Independence
Editorial conclusions are based on the available evidence and the Journal's published standards. Donors, sponsors, partners, sources, and outside organizations do not receive authority over editorial findings or publication decisions.
Evidence Standards
Factual claims should be proportionate to the strength of the evidence supporting them. Authors and editors must distinguish established facts, reasonable inference, uncertainty, allegation, and opinion. Material uncertainty should be disclosed rather than obscured.
Source Requirements
Work should cite reliable, relevant sources that readers can identify and examine when possible. Primary records, original data, official documents, and direct evidence are preferred. Anonymous or confidential sources require heightened editorial scrutiny and clear justification.
AI Disclosure Policy
Authors must disclose material use of generative AI in research, drafting, analysis, translation, or image production. AI output is not treated as a source and must be independently verified. AI may assist initial screening, but human editors make final editorial decisions.
Conflict of Interest Policy
Authors and editors must disclose financial, professional, personal, or organizational interests that could reasonably affect—or appear to affect—the work. Relevant conflicts may be published with the article or may prevent participation in its review.
Corrections Policy
Substantive errors are corrected promptly and transparently. Corrections should identify what changed and, when useful, when the change was made. Minor spelling, formatting, or clarity edits that do not alter meaning may be made without a formal correction notice.
Submission Review Process
Submitted work may undergo completeness checks, automated screening, source review, fact-checking, editorial review, and revision. A submission may be accepted, returned for revision, or rejected. Submission does not guarantee publication, and work is never published automatically.
Publication Transparency
Published work should identify its author, editors, publication and update dates, sources, relevant disclosures, and corrections. Methodological or sourcing limitations should be explained when they materially affect how readers should interpret the work.
